Finally, the end of 2020 is in sight. I have tried very hard to be thankful of all the positives this year has provided. However, I am acutely aware of difficulties, personal tragedies and devastation this year has brought.
That is why I began this blog. I wanted to keep supporting businesses that were closed, businesses that were facing tough times, and show the people behind those businesses.
It has proved to be popular and I have been asked to continue into 2021.
Sadly, I am going to press pause on this little venture for now (never say never). It was never meant to be a long-term blog so I am amazed that I made it to December. It goes to show how much local, Stockport businesses want to be seen. We buy from people and it has been an honour to use my platform to showcase so many talented people who are also our neighbours.
Thank you for reading and supporting Mockingbird Copywriting this year too. Just having a browse of my blog makes me do a little dance.
I wish you all a happier and healthier 2021.
Create It is a dream turned reality for us, Andrea and Jane, two creative friends from Stockport.
Having worked together since our children were babies (now 15, 13 and 10!) with our silver imprint jewellery business ‘Love Prints’, we had always wanted to open a craft cafe when our children were older. The vision was to create a relaxed environment where people of any age or ability felt empowered to make their own masterpieces with lots of guidance and encouragement from us.
When we found our premises on Wilmslow Road in Cheadle, it required a lot of work. But, after a few months of hard graft, Create It was ready to welcome its first customers. We’ve never looked back – even during these challenging times!
We are so grateful to our brilliant team (especially our lovely Annie who has helped lots of you to make precious keepsakes over the years) and loyal customers. They continue to support us and make our job such a pleasure!
Our friendly craft cafe has now been open for over 7 years.
It has provided creative fun for so many people in our community as well as further afield. We offer a number of activities, but the main one has to be ‘paint your own pottery’ which is suitable for all ages and abilities.
We’re busier than ever making our beautiful ‘Love Prints’ imprint jewellery, capturing finger, hand, foot and paw prints in silver and we also specialise in clay imprints which make wonderful keepsakes at any age.
We have a fantastic party room which, during normal times, is a great space for all types of celebrations. From birthdays (we’ve hosted 1st birthdays and 70th birthdays and everything in between!) to baby showers, hen dos to team building, it is a great venue to hire.
A highlight of each month is our grown-up evening session when you can get creative in a child-free environment with a glass or two!
We’ve always stocked a great range of quality craft gifts, and in 2020 we developed lots more take away craft kits. This means everyone can continue the creative fun at home. It’s been a challenging year, but we have worked harder than ever to adapt to the continually changing circumstances. We wanted to ensure, regardless of the restrictions, we are able to continue to offer our customers the ability to capture memories and to enjoy the therapeutic benefits of being creative at home.
Who knows what the next year will bring. We will continue to do all we can to help make precious keepsakes and to support our community in sharing the joy of creativity.

Two years ago, after almost a decade as a classroom teacher, I decided to down my whiteboard markers and offer my services as a private tutor. With the addition of two bouncing boys to our family, what I needed was the flexibility of self-employment and the convenience of working from home. Hence, Inspiring English was born.
I’ve always enjoyed teaching. As a little girl I used to make tests and worksheets for my friends when they came to play (which must have made me really popular!).
I am also fascinated by the world of words, so teaching English is the perfect vocation for me.
Several of my clients are local and have come via recommendations, but I have students all over the UK and even as far as China. Ranging from 6-year-olds to adult learners, some students are preparing for exams, others for a move to the UK and a few are even studying for pleasure. The variety keeps me interested and being able to help so many people is extremely rewarding. That’s something that I appreciate compared to classroom teaching. I have time to get everything done and personalise lessons to each individual’s need.
As a creative person, I enjoy using words imaginatively, and so when I’m not teaching, I write.
I produce educational resources for a revision subscription box. I also write features for local businesses and am currently researching for a non-fiction book I’d like to write in the new year.
Thankfully, being an educator means that my business has not been negatively affected by Covid-19. 2020 has been busier than ever. But I feel for all the small businesses who have suffered as a result of the virus. The work Becky is doing to champion small businesses is so valuable, and we must all continue to support one another during these challenging times.
Hi, my name is Sara Murawa.
I run Parent Concern a specialist tutoring company from my home in Cheadle, South Manchester.
Many of my tutees have challenges: ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, ASD, and comorbidities – retained reflexes that impede their motor skills.
Firstly, I’m a mum of two grown-up young men, wife, daughter, sister and friend.
I’ve been working with children for the past 30 years. My last position before I set up Parent Concern was Head Teacher of a successful Nursery School.
Setting up Parent Concern
Initially, when I took the difficult decision to leave teaching, I thought Parent Concern would be solely an advisory role. I soon realised offering my services as a tutor and also combining my expertise as an educational advisor worked well together. The business evolved and blossomed into a family of budding tutees.
The age group I tutor ranges from 5- 17 years of age. Some of my tutees have been with me for over 10 years. The work is individualised and bespoke and adapted to each tutee learning style. Incorporating individual interests and making the work, interactive provides learners with a fun way to learn.
I work very carefully with the parents too, as they are an integral part of the team.
When needed, I also refer to other expert colleagues. Educational Psychologists, Dyslexia Assessors, Paediatricians and Behavioural Optometrists all contribute to my business. My belief is that having a team around your tutee works well.
Fast forward to 2020, and I now see 22 children per week. All lessons have now moved online, and to my surprise, it’s working very well. So much so that a few new children have joined the online family.

Hi, I’m Becky and I am Mockingbird Copywriting. I support small businesses by helping them find their brand voice and keeping them consistent online. Writing blog posts, social media content and website copy is time-consuming and often forgotten. Passing this on to me means you can concentrate on running your business.
